Story: Several schools recognized for their green effort
Along with reading, writing and arithmetic, students are learning a whole new set of “The Three Rs” – and many of those students have been recognized for their efforts to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to help the environment.
Four Warren Consolidated schools and 12 in the Utica Community Schools district were recognized by the Macomb County Board of Commissioners as official Michigan Green Schools on April 22, Earth Day. Schools met 10 criteria to achieve the status, including a variety of actions that result in energy savings and environmentally friendly activities.

Here we go Browning families…we are in the final month of our shopping program. The April receipt counts are due on Friday May 7th, 2010.
Then the spring semester will end on May 21st. They will give us until May 28th to have our final counts in for the end of the program and that is it until next year! Much appreciation and thanks for all of your efforts to support our school! We had a great year. I will give the final numbers at the end of the month.
Double points will be at Abercrombie Kids from May 3rd-9th, 2010.
THANK YOU!
Please contact Dawn Neubacher [email protected] or Tracy Sorrentino [email protected] if you have any questions
The Browning PTA has added another item to our “growing” list of recycling items . . . batteries! Look for “The Battery Box” on the PTA table near the office and place any old batteries inside! We’ll make sure they get recycled properly!
Just a reminder that anytime you’re in the school you can look for the PTA table and drop off any of the following:
* My School is Cool Lakeside Mall receipts
* Box Tops Labels
* Campbell Soup Labels
* Any type of printer ink cartridges
* Tyson Food Labels
* VG grocery receipts
Browning Is Lucky to Have Such a Great Staff!
To show our Browning the Best staff just how much we appreciate all of their time & efforts for our children, please send in $ 2.00 to help defray the cost of morning treats and luncheon for them the week of March 14th-18th!
Contributions can be returned to school in an envelope marked “Staff Appreciation” & are needed A.S.A.P.
If you or a family member would like to help or donate treats, breakfast foods, coffee cakes, muffins, etc. for our staff, please contact Jen Sornig at 586.731.4648 or [email protected]!
All contributions of time, baked goods &/or donations are greatly appreciated!
Unfortunately, the BINGO Event scheduled for Friday, Feb. 4th has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. We know many families enjoyed last year’s event & were looking forward to it.
For those who sent in reservation forms/deposits, be assured they will be returned to you ASAP. Any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any of the PTA Board members.
When shopping at a VG’s grocery store, please remember to provide receipts or copies to our school. They can be placed in the box located on the PTA table outside of the office or have your child give to their teacher. VG’s will pay our school 1% of total grocery purchases (excluding tax, tobacco and alcohol).
We appreciate the opportunity when a local business is willing to show community support by giving back to our school when you shop at VG’s.
Every little bit makes a difference for our children at “Browning the Best”.
Thank you for your support and participation!
Requests for funding must be provided to PTA at least 7 days before a scheduled meeting (submit online via PTA Website or written request.) Requests will be included in agenda & made available for member review (via email & website.) This will allow any interested parties to attend the meeting & voice their opinion/vote. If request is not received 7 days prior to meeting, request can be discussed during the meeting but will be tabled until the next meeting to ensure that all interested/affected parties have an opportunity to weigh in.
We are confident that this policy will encourage member (parents & staff) input and will help ensure that PTA funded projects address our student’s educational needs and enhance their learning environment. Any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
As always, your support is greatly appreciated!

READING MAKES YOUR KNOWLEDGE GROW
2010 Family Literacy Night – Sponsored by the Browning Elementary PTA
Thanks to everyone who participated in Browning’s Family Literacy Night on Thursday, March 11th for a celebration of reading!
Students enjoyed selecting books from the awesome “book garden” book exchange where families/students “planted” their gently used book and “picked” one to take home, wonderful book themed snacks, planting seeds in biodegradable pots, making their own sunflower reading charts, and listening to our guest readers & local author Noi Reineke. 3rd Grade families were entertained by their budding poets & commercial super-stars.
In order to offer this FREE event, we needed a great planning team & volunteers. Wow! They were all amazing! We greatly appreciate their time, creativity, & talents. Without them, Family Literacy Night would not have been possible.
All proceeds from the Book Fair benefited the Browning Research Center.
